Marques Titialii warms up pregame against Edmonds.

The Everett Trojans Baseball team took the first game on Saturday with a 1-0 win vs Edmonds. In a game of inches, the little things count the most and Everett played a phenomenal small ball game to edge out the win.

The standout performance for Saturday’s game undoubtedly goes to Marques Titialii, EvCC freshmen and starting pitcher. With 7 and ⅓ innings pitched, Titialii allowed only three hits and totaled a mind boggling 15 strikeouts.

Titialii’s pitching style also stood out Saturday. His delivery from pitch to pitch is ever changing, showing multiple variations and delivery speeds resembling the likes of San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto.

“I was just focusing on being myself and doing me out there, performing to the best of my abilities and letting my teammates feed off that energy,” said Titialii.

The only run Everett managed to muster up came on a fielder’s choice to Edmonds’ second basemen. The game came down to a pitching duel and a few sacrifice bunts when looking in hindsight.

“We don’t expect to bunt, we do hit when we’re playing well but in the end you have to play to win and if the game tells you to bunt, then we are gonna bunt. We’re gonna do whatever we have to, to win,” said EvCC Head Coach Jojo Howie.

Everett’s next game will be May 11th, 4:00 P.M. at Edmonds Community College.
