Emma and Luke DuChesne: Twinning is Winning
In many instances, twins claim to be opposites in both personality and hobbies. In this case, they have more things in common than they do in dissimilarities; the only thing Emma and Luke DuChesne seem not to have in common is their gender.
This year is the second year they will play basketball here at EvCC and it may be their last year playing. The DuChesne twins are excited to have a good basketball season in both teams this year.
Every year the top four teams in each region compete for the state competition, and this year current standings report that the EvCC women’s team hold fourth place in our region and the EvCC men’s team holds third place. Elijah Brown, an EvCC student and a fan, thinks that both teams have a strong chance of making it to play offs.
Brown shows more hope for the men’s team saying, “They can beat any team out there… if only they were less selfish with the ball.”
Basketball has been a part of the DuChense family’s lives since before the twins were even born.
Their mother was a part of a state championship team in Montana and their father was a coach until this year. They have played basketball since they were in the first grade, “as early as you can start them,” Emma says.
They continued to play basketball in high school and it has given them the opportunity to go to EvCC on scholarships.
They are very grateful to have the opportunity to go to school and to keep doing what they love.
They also have a younger sister, Maya, who plays basketball as well.
Emma and Luke like to say that being twins was a blessing in disguise; if they were either both girls or both boys they feel there may have been a stronger sense of competition. Instead, they are a support team for each other and even share the same team jersey number: 14.
After this year, they both hope to go to Western Washington University; Luke hopes to be a high school english teacher and Emma would like to become a high school history teacher. Because they will be teaching at a high school level, they would also love to be coaches for basketball teams if given the chance.
The DuChesne’s are happy knowing that they have “solid teams” and they are ending their basketball chapters with a bang when they go to play off’s.
