Listen Up! A Review: Meg Myers “Sorry”

Tennessee born Meg Myers is an alternative indie rock artist. In September she released her first full length album “Sorry”. With a music style so unique it’s hard not to either fall in love with her music, or absolutely hate it.

Meg’s music style is heavily influenced by her not-so-great childhood. When she was young, her parents divorced and she was moved from Tennessee to Florida. Her mother remarried, which caused a large change in Meg’s life. Not only was she moved, along with her siblings, she was also pulled from public school and raised in an extremely religious household. Due to all the hardship, she turned to music at a young age, learning guitar and bass. In her early twenties she moved to LA with her then boyfriend in hopes of finding a music career. She succeeded quickly.

2013 was the first time her music was released, an EP called “Daughter in the Choir”. This was quickly followed a year later by “Make a Shadow”. Finally in late 2015 her debut album “Sorry” was released, and she did not disappoint. Meg’s album is full of edgy indie style rock that quickly gets stuck in your head.

With songs such as “Lemon Eyes” and “Feather” leading her album in number of plays, it is no question that her edgy vibes and questionable lyrics capture the hearts of many people. “Hush now baby there’s no need to cry, let me wipe away those lemon eyes.” Now I don’t know if it’s just me but her lyrics make little to no sense. What exactly is a lemon eye? If you dig deeper into her songs such as “Sorry” you can hear her pure passion, along with lyrics that make slightly more sense. “I’m sorry that I lost our love until the end of time, sorry that I lost our love it really hurts some times.” We can all kind of relate to this right?

Overall I would easily give this album a solid 5 stars thanks to the pure amount of talent she has alone. All the songs are amazing but I would have to say, if you’re new to Meg, “Motel” and “Sorry” are your best bets to get the feels for her music.
