Men’s Soccer Winning Streak Ends
The Trojans fell to Peninsula, snapping a three game winning streak.
The EvCC men’s soccer team lost to Peninsula 2-1 Wednesday in less than ideal conditions at Kasch Park.
The loss snaps a 3 game unbeaten run, but the team still retains its 3rd place position in the North Region of NWAC.
The weather hindered both teams playing technique and style of play as heavy rains and high winds battered the region.
Peninsula took a 1-0 lead right before the end of halftime off a free kick scored by Cesar Gervacio in the 44th minute.
EvCC equalized the match 1-1 off a set piece sent in by Henry Gonzalez to Trojans captain Baldemar Martinez who headed the ball in at the far post in the 66th minute.
“The goal turned the game around”’ said Trojans captain Baldemar Martinez. “We scored… we picked our heads up and kept going, looking for another one.”
It seemed the Trojans would extend their unbeaten streak to 4, but it wasn’t to be.
In the 81st minute, Peninsula’s Joseph Hollimon scored the match winner.
While the result stings, Trojan Head Coach Erik Cruz was proud of the team’s effort
“We showed good soccer. We put the number one and two team up against the ropes and one unlucky shot cost us the game, but overall, I feel like today was our top performance.”
The Trojans look to return to winning form against Whatcom October 21 with kickoff at 2:15PM PT at Kasch Park.
