Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced on Feb. 21 his plans to double the spending for Seattle’s homeless crisis. Mayor Murray plans to move 500 homeless families indoors by increasing property taxes. If approved, the average Seattle property owner will pay $15 per month.

The driver, Neilson Rizzuto, was highly intoxicated and driving in the opposite direction of the parade when he hit two vehicles and swerved into the Mardi Gras parade. The victims ranged from ages three or four-year-olds to adults in their 30s or 40s; twenty-one of the victims were hospitalized.

The defendants of the “Rabaa sit-in dispersal” case face charges of vandalism, attempted murder and planning an armed insurrection. During the court session, the defendants chanted against one of the witnesses, a member of the security force that helped disperse the protesters at Rabaa Al-Adaweya four years earlier. The court decision was issued without prior investigation.
