The Muppets are Back, and They Brought It

These Muppets want your love and devotion, who are you to deprive them of that?

Sometimes change is scary, but for “The Muppets”, this revamping of a classic seems natural. Miss Piggy is still the same sexy, ball-buster she always has been. A busty mash-up of Ursula from The Little Mermaid with a shot of Rihanna, this porkchop is a true diva who reigns supreme in the modern reboot of Jim Henson’s classic puppet ensemble.

Director Randall Einhorn (“The Office”, “Wilfred”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) brings a dark, adult humor to the original cast. Imagine “30 Rock” meets “The Office”, that’s the feel of this mockumentary revolving around Miss Piggy’s fictional talk show.

Kermit is the producer of (his now ex-girl) Miss Piggy’s show and spends the majority of the time trying to cope with everyone’s shenanigans, and making damn certain Miss Piggy never finds out her dress size, weight or age.

Personally, I believe Pepé the King Prawn is the star of this show, rocking a gold chain and a latin accent, with lines like “look at me I’m Bradley Coopers” or in response to his fast handwriting “Hey man, that’s really impressive!” Pepe shoots back: “Ohhh, you should see me in the shower. 10 seconds, in/out everything is clean.”.

With star features like Josh Groban, Ed Helms and Liam Hemsworth who pops in to steal Gonzo’s internet love interest, the guest cast is no joke.

The show wants to grow with us, like Harry Potter, taking us who (I hope) grew up watching the Muppets on Treasure Island, or in space, or breaking out of Russian prisons with Tina Fey (<3), and giving us adult humor with characters we already love. To reiterate, this show is NOT for children.

ABC’s The Muppets (2015) is a riot, catch it on Tuesday at 6 Pacific time. Grab a beverage, and get ready to catch some feels. In the words of Bunsen Honeydew “Tonight my PhD stands for: Pretty hard drinking!”, and he’s a doctor, so take his advice.
