What interests you about journalism?

The diversity and impact of the work. Every day is a new day with new aspects of a project to work on or research, and there's often work that needs to be researched so that you can become an expert and produce an accurate article. There's never a point where something is 'good enough' but rather the work becomes 'thorough and clear' which is more important to the people who are reading it and who will be affected by it. I enjoy the work and the outcome of researching and publishing useful work.

Where does The Clipper fit into your long-term goals?

I would like to write for a large newspaper or website, and The Clipper gives hands on experience with field research, article writing, deadlines, editing, and publishing. There are many more opportunities available including video, photography and much more. Long term goals are long term because they usually require experience, and The Clipper is providing some of that experience for the long term.

What are you doing when you aren't at The Clipper?

I collect books. I have read several hundred books over the last couple years, and
have a collection of around 100 books ranging in date from an 1859 Edward Fitzgerd Rubaiyat of Omar Kayy'am to a signed first edition of Adam Savage's Every Tool's A Hammer published in 2019. As far as collecting goes I stick to topics I like, and in a bookstore I'll be found in the corner with the dusty shelves and nobody else around reading the books without titles!

What is an issue or topic you are passionate about?

I am very passionate about integrity. "Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching." - C.S. Lewis, and "You just keep pushing. You just keep pushing. I made every mistake that could be made. But I just kept pushing." -Rene Descartes, are two quotes that really define integrity. In my opinion there is no correct way to do something, as long as the result is accurate and the journey to that result is integrous.
