Trojans Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Fired

After two seasons as assistant coach of the women’s basketball team, Rob Balderas has been fired. This season was tough for the team. Before the season had started, multiple players had walked away, forcing the Trojans to play with only six players on the roaster.

The Clipper was unable to reach any of the players for comment. Trojans Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Chet Hovde, declined to comment.

The Director of Athletics, Garet Studer, spoke in regard to the coaching staff, “Our head coaches are in charge of their staff and Chet [Hovde] informed me the day after the end of the season and said he’s ‘not going to have Rob back.’” When Studer asked if anything was going on, Hovde said no.

Rob Balderas’ daughter, Serafina, was on the team this past season. In an earlier interview, Balderas said of his daughter being on the team, “That there is the highlight of my career.”
