Japanese Club hosted their Fall Tea House on November 9 and 10 at the Jackson Center from 10 am to 3 pm. This falls theme was Robiraki, it relates to the Japanese tea ceremony and it was chosen by the members of the club. Japanese Club members also focus on serving a traditional drink, along with some baked goods and this year Matcha, a green powered tea, was the main ingredient.

The Tea House is the primary fundraiser for the club, and this fall quarter they raised approximately $250 with the presence of more than 30 people including students, staff and faculty. Heather Jean Uhl, Japanese Club advisor states how the tea house was “meant to be quiet and relaxing.” The green tea cupcakes and the green tea brownies were the most popular during the event.

Japanese Club meets every Thursday at 1:30 pm in the classroom of Nippon Business Institute. As Uhl explains, “we are a group of students, staff, faculty and community members, the club is open to everyone, who are dedicated to the founding of international good will… we do that by engaging in activities, workshops and field-trips around cultural, historical and linguistics of Japanese life.”

If you missed out on the tea and the other traditional goodies do not forget that they also host another Tea House during Winter Quarter so, look out for it. Also, they will be featuring their most popular dish, Daifuku.
