If you’re lucky enough to be in Baker Hall at the right time, you can hear the beautiful music coming out of the practice rooms over the buzzing of the building.
EvCC’s music program offers private instruction as well as performance groups. Students are also given the opportunity to learn about music history, theory and music appreciation, where you get a chance to listen to different types of instruments and learn the different parts of the orchestra and so much more.
Not only do students gain knowledge and skill in music but the coursework has other benefits as well. It may help build self confidence and communications skills as an added plus. Tiffany, a sophomore in the music program here at EvCC, talks about the other benefits her music has given her, “I do it to calm down, when I’m sad to cheer me up.”
The program is designed to prepare students for careers in concert performance, musical theater productions, operas and operettas while also helping students to gain the skills for other career opportunities from teaching to editing voice-overs.
If you are looking for an elective and you enjoy music, the classes in the music program come highly recommended. The classes are fun; challenging and they help you become more comfortable with groups and getting up in front of others, according to Tiffany.
