Will Your Classes Be Cancelled?

It’s wintertime in Washington, which means the chance of snowstorms, wind storms, and flooding. And since a majority of students are making long treks to school it would be nice to know beforehand if bad weather has caused classes to be canceled. The school has implemented a program called RAVE, which is an emergency notification system. The system allows those who are signed up to receive alerts about school closures or delays. Director of Public relations Katherine Schiffner stated, “With our old system we had spam problems. The phone company would see the texts and some would see it as spam, so messages would either not be delivered to students or they could be delayed, which is not helpful after the fact.” The school does still use the old system too; both have just been in production. Schiffner said that the program isn’t just for students and faculty, but community members as well. To sign up for the system all that is needed is to go on https://www.everettcc.edu/Emergency and follow the step-by step instructions that are at the top of the screen to register. The minimum requirements for signing up are that people add their name and email, though they do have the option to add personal emails and also their cell phone or home numbers. Save the trip of coming into school when it’s storming and sign up.
