Trojans Sweep Olympic in Double-Header

The EvCC Trojans Baseball team completed the series sweep against the Olympic Rangers Saturday, April 28 at Everett Memorial Stadium, winning the second game of the double header 7-2.

A combination of a solid outing by Trojans starting pitcher Alex Spahman and run support by the offense paved the way for a commanding victory.

The Rangers drew first blood in the first inning, when third baseman Jeff Cochran hit an RBI single which drove in one to make it 1-0 with 2 outs. The Trojans would retaliate that same inning as Nic Anderson would hit an RBI double, bringing in Cameron McGrath from third base to score and tie the game up 1-1.

In the second inning, the Trojans took the lead 2-1. Second baseman Mauro Owens led the inning off with a double. Then, with smart base-running, Owens stole third base before stealing home to score during the next at bat.

The Rangers would tie the game up in the top of the third inning. With two outs and one runner on, third baseman Jeff Cochran hit an RBI single that brought in Ben Koler from second base to score, making it 2-2.

During that same inning, Trojans outfielder Danny Head hit a solo homerun with 2 outs on a 3-1 count and put the Trojans back up on top 3-2.

The Trojans wouldn’t score until the seventh inning but Alex Spahman had settled into a rhythm. After the third inning, he would toss 6 scoreless innings, eventually pitching a complete game.

The Trojans would pull away late in the ballgame, scoring two runs in the 7th inning and two more in the 8th inning.

With one out and one runner on Nic Anderson would swat a two- run blast, giving the Trojans a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Trojans weren’t finished yet.

Kyle Rodriguez led the bottom of the eighth inning with a single. Mauro Owens followed with a walk, moving Rodriguez to second base. There were runners at first and second with no outs. Kenny McCormick would then hit an RBI-single bringing in Rodriguez to score making it 6-2 Trojans.

Cam McGrath would hit an RBI double bringing McCormick  in from third to score the final run of the ball game.
