The Trojans displayed an unbreakable spirit during their home game against the Shoreline Dolphins on Oct. 19. Eight of the Trojans made names for themselves in scoring with twelve total goals. With the season soon ending, the team is fired up more than ever to end the season with a bang. The fans exploded with excitement in the stands, cheering on their friends and fellow classmates.
In the first nine minutes, the Trojans took control with a free kick goal made by Maki Quiyono Wong. Prior to the kick, Wong consulted with one of her teammates and came to a quick decision. Her kick sailed right over the Dolphins defense and curved into the left corner of the goal. After quick celebrations among the team, they lined up to prepare for Shoreline’s counterattack.
After just a few passes, EvCC stole the ball and took complete control over the game. With a second long shot goal scored by Chloe Parker in less than a minute, the energy of the players continued to climb up until the end of the game. With this being the last season at EvCC for several members of the team, they were eager to throw everything they had at Shoreline. “A lot of us sophomores are … really sad because we’re all pretty good friends. But we’re in a new formation … and we’re doing better,” Parker said.
The Trojan’s offense kept Shoreline backed up against the goal, rarely allowing them to get past the midfielder. Any plays that did make it to the goal line were swiftly picked up or cleared away by goalie and captain Brynn Meno. After two more fast paced goal attempts that were shut out by the Dolphins goalie, Lucy Soriano-Sanchez was able to sink the third goal for Everett.
Tension on the field ran high as the determination came out from both teams, with plays growing more intense and aggressive. Shortly after the goal, a foul was called against the Trojans when one of the Dolphins was downed. Gisela Chavez scored a high-arching goal after a successful quick touch play from the offense. The score gap continued to grow with a few more fouls being called against EvCC.

The fouls gave Shoreline a chance to bridge the gap, but their attacks were shut down over and over again. The Trojans had a very unified attack formation and made many long-shot plays, helping Delaney Richards to make goals five and seven. In between those two goals, Genesis Molina Escob made goal six after a goalie kick from Shoreline fell short at the feet of our offense.
By the time the buzzer rang for half-time, the Trojans were still standing strong with a brutal score of 8-0. Celebrations were happening all around, on and off the field. The deep comradery and passion running in each player was clearly visible. After every attempted goal, high fives and words of encouragement were exchanged.
Emotions were running high on the field, with Shoreline attempting to make a comeback in the second half of the game. Meno was an anchor for not just the defense, but the offense. Not one shot was allowed to breach the goal and every pass to teammates was delivered with an encouraging word.
Wong started the second half off with another goal, claiming her second for the game. Zaida Woods kept the pressure high with a successful shot on goal in the next two minutes. Captain Isabella Nguon secured yet another goal for the Trojans, leaving them with a double-digit score.
The Dolphin’s valiant attempt fell short at the hands of the Trojans’ fortified defense. The game ended at 68 minutes, the final score 12-0. With EvCC’s season coming to a close, this was the game of the season that the team needed.
