Behind the Ink: Faculty and Students Share Tattoos and their Meanings
As Tattoos are becoming more socially acceptable in Western society, many people are getting them as a way to express themselves. Just walking through the EvCC campus you are likely to see students with tattoos. Some students have deep and sentimental reasons for their ink, and some get them for no purpose at all. EvCC is filled with students and faculty with beautiful and interesting tattoos.
Photography instructor Ellen Felsenthal recently got her Hamsa hand tattoo at Tattoo Garden in Everett. Felsenthal really wanted a colorful tattoo that would really stand out, so she got all the line work in color opposed to filling in black outlines. Felsenthal really personalized the inside designs on her Hamsa hand tattoo, every element has a specific meaning to her. “I had the human eye replaced with a cat eye, I also added moons and the symbols to represent the environment,” she says. Felsenthal also personalized her other tattoo, which is a Mandela made with animal footprints.
