Celebrating National Coming Day and the LGBT Community

October 18, 2016

Diversity spreads across our society in many ways and is commonly celebrated by significant days or holidays. On Oct 11 the LGBTQIA+ community was celebrated via National Coming Out Day. This specific day is designed to provide a reason for people to come out of the closet and to celebrate the sexuality or gender identity of individuals within the community. EvCC has many members of this community on campus. In support of those students there are multiple places on campus providing safe spaces. One of these places is the Pride Center which is ran by Sammie Estremera. EvCC is also part of the safe zone program, promising a safe environment for LGBTQIA+ students. In celebration of National Coming Out Day a few students spoke with us and told their stories, struggles, happiness, and hardships.
