Some of you may not have asked for it, and some of you needed it. I’m talking of course about “Zoolander 2”. 15 years after the first comedy classic, the dynamic modeling duo Derek Zoolander, played by Ben Stiller, and Hansel, played by Owen Wilson, take back the big screen in a surprisingly refreshing sequel.

“Zoolander 2” takes place exactly 15 years after the first where numerous “really really ridiculously good looking” celebrities start to die with the signature Zoolander face. It’s up to Derek and Hansel to solve this mystery, find his son, and save the world.

Now, this movie has been getting mixed reviews across the board which I can understand why. With over the top almost far reaching jokes audiences seem to fall flat on taking the movie for what it is. If you go into this movie with the expectation that this will be ridiculous (as a Zoolander movie should) then you will be pleasantly surprised by this re-hashing of an early 2000’s classic.

I went into this movie with the mentality of “I really hope this doesn’t suck,” and was pleasantly surprised after previous movie sequels of comedy movies fell short. Take “Dumb and Dumber To,” for example.

The character chemistry between Derek and Hansel is just as in sync as it was 15 years ago, to where I felt like they actually were friends as their characters. What made some of the jokes so funny was that each character plays off of the others really well.

This movie did have its flaws, (which should be expected) in that some of the pop culture jokes and quick gags were unneeded and felt as if the directors were trying to fill movie time instead of making the audience laugh.

Will Ferrell returns as the infamous Mugatu, and delivered probably the best joke in the whole movie. You could tell that the actors had fun making this movie in how much they tried to sell their wacky and outlandish characters. Let’s not forget the INCREDIBLE cameo by Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the multi-gender model superstar “All” who left the audience laughing at how far out of bounds he stepped to play this role.

I would recommend “Zoolander 2″ to anyone who has seen and enjoyed the original and is looking for a good laugh. Don’t come in with high expectations and take it too seriously, and just “relax.” I give “Zoolander 2” 3/5 stars, though it was not as funny as the original (but can you blame it? The movie had to top “Zoolander”)
