Michael Bay’s “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” brings to light a secret mission deemed critical by the U.S Department of Defense, where six ex-military mercenaries put their lives on the line to protect a United States ambassador. With excellent cinematography, the audience is made to feel like they are right next to these men as they stack up against all odds to do what is right. Prior to seeing this, I was a little skeptical at first due to Michael Bay’s over the top action sequences and explosions.

Admittedly, I only went out of my way to see this movie because it was starring John Krasinski, David Denman and Dominic Fumasa who all were actors on “The Office.” Well, if you share the same view point as I did then you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of this movie. Expecting to be hit with high octane action and war propaganda I was treated to a movie where it is not so much about the action as it is about the men fighting in it.

Usually when seeing films like this, I walk out of the theater with a favorite character or performance in mind. This was not the case in “13 Hours” where each actor gave award winning performances. With tasteful witty humor here and there it brought a true sense of comradery between these individuals.

Throughout the movie, you are left wondering when enough is enough and how much more these men can handle before finally falling in a blaze of glory as a lot of war movies have done in the past, this is no such movie and the fact that these events occurred in real life really drives home how traumatic this really was.

If you are on the fence over seeing this movie or not I urge you to give it a shot, you will be pleasantly surprised. With gut wrenching violence, excellent cinematography and superb dialog I would gladly give 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi 3.5/5 stars!
