Prepare for the Adventure of the Year: “The Revenant”

January 25, 2016

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “The Revenant” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy will blow you away with stunning visuals, exceptional storytelling and (this goes without saying) Oscar-worthy performances.

“The Revenant” takes place  1800’s Middle America in the dead of winter, as animal pelt farmers are ambushed by natives and are forced to evacuate. Captain Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is then attacked by a bear while his team tries to escape, leaving him mortally wounded. John Fitzgerald, played by Tom Hardy, chooses the group’s survival over Glass’s and proceeds to attempt to kill him and his son.

Going into this movie, I expected it to be a fast paced action/survival story where a man is bent on revenge and must overcome his environment at all costs… well this is mostly true except for the fact that this is in no way a fast paced movie. But, don’t you worry, Alejandro Gonzalez will captivate your attention from start to finish. Being shot completely in natural light, you as the viewer actually feel as though you are in this dire situation with Glass.

I found myself wishing I wore an extra coat while seeing the chilling conditions he was put through. Leonardo DiCaprio definitely has a case to be made for an Oscar win with his committed performance but what else do you expect from an actor like him?

In the end, I have to say “The Revenant” definitely met my expectations, and is a must see in theaters this winter and would give it an exceptional 4/5 stars, just be sure to bundle up beforehand.
