What is an issue or topic you are interested about?
I am interested in diversity in theater spaces, especially how neurodivergent folks are treated within them. As years go on more theaters bring new accommodations to the audience such as ASL interpreters, headphones for hearing impaired, and sensory friendly performances. But there still isn’t much progress when it comes to new accommodations to the stage. In a world where work ethic is tied to how ride or die you are for the craft, disability is still seen as a disadvantage to paying theaters.
When you aren’t doing things for the Clipper, what can you be found doing?
If I’m not doing things for the Clipper or school I am probably doing something music or theater related. Whether it’s rehearsal or music directing, I pretty much live at the theater. I’ve played everything from the bookshop owner in Beauty and The Beast to the ferryman to the underworld. Recently, though, I’ve found a certain love for music directing. I think it’s especially interesting how changing notes and harmonies can seemingly change the context of a song, and I could probably go on for hours about it.
What interests you about journalism?
What interests me about journalism is how tied to culture it is: How an article can sway public opinion; how people get their news; how folks can discover an interesting new thing. Journalism often is the world’s magnifying glass into the extraordinary.
