Thomas Sams and Mandi Stelter (pictured, right) meet every Thursday in Parks Café to have breakfast and work on projects for their communications class. Today, Thomas brought three dozen heart-shaped doughnuts.  What had been intended as a romantic Valentine’s gesture for his wife the previous evening – 1 dozen for every year of their marriage – are now up for grabs.  He shook his head as he said, “She actually told me, ‘These donuts are so bad they are not worth the carbs.’” He continues: “I wanted to surprise her.  I tried – I hate holidays!”  Sams adds he “drove all the way to Shoreline” to buy the donuts; “It came from the heart.”  He shrugs and offers, “Want one?”
