Pulling Back the Curtain

Behind the scenes of the Men's Basketball practice

November 3, 2016

The EvCC Men’s Basketball team is gearing up and getting ready for the 2016-17 season. The current state of the team at this point is they are gaining chemistry by playing with each other and practicing fundamentals. Gaining chemistry is huge at this point, especially with a community college since there is only two years of eligibility. This means that there is a constant turnover in athletes- the roster is constantly changing. Head Coach Mike Trautman has instituted many drills that build the chemistry of the team. Several key fundamentals in basketball are shooting, dribbling and passing. These basic drills will shape the way a team plays for the entire season, and will also help with the chemistry mentioned above. Learning the defensive and offensive schemes in Coach Trautman’s playbook is also key for a successful season, which the players should know like the back of their hand.

Half of the team watches as the others participate in a half-court scrimmage to build chemistry. Chemistry: a complex emotional or psychological interaction between people.
