A new proposal going to EvCC the Board of Trustees will offer a new name for the Student Fitness Center. A naming committee has been formed and the proposal should be pitched sometime in May.

Currently the names of most of the buildings are named after mountains based on geography, except for Henry M. Jackson and the Parks Student Union. These buildings are named after people who have made a positive impact at EvCC. The proposal would rename the Student Fitness Center to the Walt Price Student Fitness Center.

Walt Price is a deceased former coach and athlete who was inducted into the 2009 EvCC hall of fame along with his son Mike Price. Walt Price was an instructor and coach at EvCC who was the leader of the Physical Education program. He was involved with the program for 20 years until retirement.

The naming committee hopes by renaming the Student Fitness Center the EvCC campus would gain a sense of identity and pride in our past. John Olson, Vice President of College Advancement, released the information to the student senate on Friday, May 1st. At this meeting Nichols Eveland, ASB VP of Public Relations, supported the idea saying it would give a “personalized and connected feeling” for those on campus.
